Ezekiel Sutton

Ezekiel was born about 1835 in Ohio and was the last of David and Lucy's children.  He was the youngest and went to live with his sister Sophronia when their parents both past.  This is according to the 1850 census.  In 1860 he marries Sarrah Ann Egbert and gets a divorce in 1865.  They had one child Lucy A who is born in 1861 but dies in 1865.   There is no census for 1870, but he is living with brother David and Franklin in 1880 in Steuben County.  1900 I believe he is living in Florida with a nephew named Elmer, son of George W, who is the son of Ezekiel's brother Franklin.  In his sisters obit, it mentions that she has three surviving brothers, so this mean Ezekiel is still alive in 1905.  No other records have been located.

Update: Ezekiel was born January 2, 1836 in Wood County, Ohio. Died 24 Apr 1921 Anderson, Madison, Indiana

Ezekiel lived in Florida and is shown on the 1900 census in Polk County, Florida.  He lived with his nephew for a short time and ended up moving back to Indiana.  On November 3, 1909 he went to the Anderson Old Peoples Home staying until his death in 1921.

Ezekiel Sutton Aged 77 years
Being alone in his old age, he was glad to leave him place of adobe in Florida and come to Anderson Old People's Home, which he very much appreciates.  Brother Sutton was born in Wood County, Ohio, January 2, 1836, and spent most of his life near Angola, Ind., after which he spent some time in Florida and came to the Home, November 3, 1909. His wife, father, mother, brothers, and sisters are all gone on before to the world beyond, and he is now unable to work and is only waiting for the summons.  He says, "I know I am saved and ready to go at any time. It is not my disposition to have much to say, but I enjoy the meetings and family worship in the chapel of the Home."

Obit: Ezekiel Sutton, age 85, died last night at the Old Peoples' Home at the Gospel Trumpet chapel with burial in the Home cemetery.  Mr Sutton came here from Florida some time ago to enter the home.  He has no relatives.

  1. I strongly disagree about the posting for Ezekiel Sutton. Reference census of 1900 was living in Polk, Florida. That particular Ezekiel Sutton's, father is from Pennsylvania. Our Ezekiel's. father is from Ohio. Please check your sources... God Bless...

  2. Thank you for your comment.

As far as the 1900 census, this is the closest I can find. Many times the men did not know or did not give the right information. His brothers census says their father was born in New Jersey... Plus, this Ezekiel is divorced and about the right age. Along with him having a nephew named Elmer. This is why I state "I believe"....and does not mean it is a fact. I am still trying to verify.

If you have information on him after 1905, it would be appreciate
